Box Pleat Valance – DIY

Sewing a curtain for my new “Reading Room”:  I have been transforming the unused office in our house to a quiet reading room/study.

To see a tutorial on how I made this valance visit: Box Pleat Valance Tutorial!

There is only one window in the room and therefore doesn’t get a lot of natural light.  Even after pulling the wallpaper down and finding white walls underneath, the room didn’t look very bright.  So, I decided to paint it a bold blue color.  I love the way the color looks at the end of our entry hallway and it coordinates with a striped couch that I inherited from a family member.

Previously, there were blinds on the window (sorry, no “before” photo) and even when opened they didn’t seem to let in enough light.  Plus, I just didn’t like the look of them…

So I decided to make a box pleat curtain/valance.

It dresses up the window just enough, but still lets in loads of light.

Sorry for my not-so-great photos.  I need a tutorial on how to take pictures of windows :-/  When I point my lens toward the window my pictures kept getting back-lit….

Here are a few detailed shots:
